Loneliness

Online Bible

There is nothing worse than being alone in the world. You have no one to talk to, no one to listen to you when you need to talk, no one to give you comfort when it is needed, no to ask advice, or to just be a friend. Sometimes I long for a special man in my life. Someone who will just hold me when things go wrong. I often wonder what is wrong with me that I have so very few friends, and that no one man, in one million could ever truly love me. Then I think how very selfish I am. God has given me the friends I have. That should be enough. Do I really need a man in my life? No. I have been doing quite well without one. Actually things are always better when I am alone. I have become spoiled in my old age. It is just me and my daughter. I do not have to cook when I do not want to. I do not have to clean the house when I don’t want to. I hve freedom to come and go as I please and answer to no one. But even at the worst of times, when no one is around, everyone is out there doing their own thing, I must remember that I am not truly alone. God is there with me. I can’t see Him, but He sees me. He pains over my loneliness. I can’t hear Him, but He hears me. He longs to fill those empty hours of loneliness. He sits there waiting for me to come to him. If only I acknowledge him he would come to me and comfort me I am friendless. It is during those quiet times that it is best to communicate with God. Talk to him as if he were your very best friend in the whole world. Tell him everything. He will be please, and so will you.

Morning

Devotion

Read Proverbs Chapter 5 in its entirity

Read Matthew Chapters 13 through 15 in its entirity

Jesus said to the people, "I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won’t be stumbling through the darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life."

John 8: 12

God is the light of our world. He leads us in and out of our loneliness. He is our friend and companion. He walks beside us. He guides our every step. He steers us in the direction he desires us to go. He is loyal to us always. He never forsakes us or turns his back in a time of need. When there is no one there for us, He is there, always patiently waiting for our cry, for our plea. God is fully of mercy and lovingkindness. There is no better friend than He.

Prayer

Lord,

Today I am lonely. My friends have gone away and left me alone. My family is far away. It is so quiet in the house today. I need someone to talk to and there is no one here but you. Thank you for taking the time to listen to me, for being loyal and never straying away from our friendship. Thank you for filling the empty, lonely hours, for making my life meaningful even though I am alone. You are a true friend and I long to return the favor.

Amen!

Lunch

Read Acts Chapter 5 in its entirity

Walk for 30 minutes with two of your closest friends. When you are walking, just talk about what comes to mind. Laugh if you want. Cry if you want. Just be yourself. Don’t worry about making a fool of yourself by saying the wrong thing. God will help you through it.

Night

Read Psalms 21 through 15 in its entirity.

In your meditation journal jot down your favorite recipe. It could be for cookies, or a pie, maybe a pasta dish. Whatever it is, write it down. Now list three people you would like to invite over next Saturday to share the recipe with you. Send them a formal invitation. Make it for a convenient time for everyone so that no one has an excuse to turn you down. Maybe you ask each one of the ladies to bring a dish to compliment what you will be serving and you can make a full course meal from it. Maybe the four of you can take turns hosting the dinner once a month at each others house. Then you can begin to fellowship with each other on a continual basis.

In your prayer journal, thank God for the friends you have. Pray to God to help you to form new friendships. Ask God to be your new best friend. Talk to him when your friends are not available and see how your life will change.

Rest peacefully tonight.
